“It feels good to give back to the community.”

The Warehouse is very passionate about the community and environment; it is part of our culture and our vision to help New Zealand to flourish. Because of this, we participate in a range of different initiatives to combat issues within the environment and support New Zealand communities.

This year we have worked with Neighbourly to promote The Great Community Clean Up. The Great Community Clean Up involves team members from The Warehouse stores and Store Support Office going into their local community to pick up litter. Neighbourly has also invited the public to get involved and put together teams to do the same. Neighbourly is a website that connects people in communities. “Teaming up with Neighbourly means we can communicate the clean-up to 350,000+ members. These members are more involved than most in their communities so they’re the perfect people to encourage to be involved” Greg Nelson is the Environment Support Manager for The Warehouse.

Over 30 teams within The Warehouse have signed up to participate in The Great Community Clean Up; cleaning up beaches, parks and reserves throughout the country. There will be a few hundred The Warehouse team members out within the community cleaning up their local communities.

This is not the only opportunity that The Warehouse gives team members to help the community and environment. Last year The Warehouse raised more than $4 million to support communities around New Zealand. This includes country-wide and regional initiatives, such as the use of the famous Red BBQ outside The Warehouse stores, ‘Bags for Good,’ and partnerships such as the ‘Zoofari’ partnership with the Auckland and Wellington Zoos.

Not only does it help the community to flourish by cleaning up litter, but it also gives the team members a sense of enrichment. “It feels good to give back to the community,” Hayden Camp, a Business Partner for The Warehouse says. “I think it’s important for everyone to contribute to the community and help keep New Zealand clean and green.”

Having a sense of purpose in your role is important. When you join The Warehouse, you are joining an 8000 strong team who believe that together we will help New Zealand to flourish. We encourage our team members to participate in community activities, to help to be the change and give back to New Zealand.
