In a land not so far away lives our Promotional Support Manager for Home and Toys, Bevan Smith. He has been working hard to bring you the new range of Star Wars Merchandise. As the guardian of these toys it has been a long, hard battle to keep this new range under wraps. However he can now announce the release of these new additions to such an iconic brand. Here is his story:
This will be a day long remembered
“The new range is being released on September 4th, ready for the Star Wars Movie release at the end of year. It’s been 30 years since Episode 6 launched! The toys and products are all based around the new movie and there is so much anticipation. It’s an iconic brand and is for all ages from collectors to parents to kids. Since the parents today were the ones that grew up with the Original Star Wars it will pass onto their kids today. I’m Star Wars fan, I grew up with it. I’ve been collecting toys, trading cards etc. since I was 7, so I’m excited just to see the movie let alone buy the toys. I don’t have a favourite character though, I like them all.”
You’re all clear, kid! Now let’s blow this thing and go home!
“I have a 4 year old boy and a 10 year old girl. I’ve just introduced them to the movies and they loved them. The biggest challenge I have now is that I need to buy three of each toy as the kids are wanting to play with them and I don’t want them playing with mine so now I have one to remain in box, one for display and one for the kids to play with.”
I can be a Jedi. Ben, tell him I’m ready!
“I started off working as a part timer at The Warehouse in Christchurch and then went on to work in a variety of stores across the South Island. I was put onto the first CADET management programme The Warehouse offered and worked my way up to managing stores. I was then ready to be upgraded to a Jedi. Six years ago I came up to Auckland into the Sylvia Park store then moved into Store Support Office as a Merchandise Space Manager for a couple of years. After that I moved into an Operations Support role before moving to my current role in the Merchandise department. A day in my role consists of promotional planning, discussing new innovations, signing off advertising, supporting my teams and looking for new opportunities.”
The Force is strong with this one.
“The Warehouse provides a wide variety of opportunities for each role and for career progression. The management programs for store managers that is provided assisted me during my time in that role as well as the advanced management programs available within support office which enable further development. Also the friendly atmosphere, people and work life balance make it a great place to work too.”
