The Warehouse is on a mission to become the leading digital retailer in New Zealand. Our growing digital team is made up of skilled individuals who have been working hard to develop outstanding digital experiences for our customers. The team may be small now with just 20 people, but The Warehouse’s digital transformation journey is just getting started and has big plans for the future. Paul Kerr, Digital Recruitment Specialist for The Warehouse, is responsible for recruiting new people to join our growing digital and wider technology teams. He is looking for individuals who can bring the right combination of technical skills, a positive attitude and agile experience, and must value collaboration and communication over processes and documentation. Not to mention people who want to make an impact to millions of kiwis.
We had a catch up with Paul to find out more about the digital and tech teams, and he let us know…“The Warehouse teams are currently focusing on the launch of our new e-commerce site towards the end of the year. However, once the site launches, the work won’t stop there. The team will be continuously working to develop and improve the site maintain a high standard of the online customer experience.” Paul discusses another key focus for the team, which is the on-going development of the mobile app. Paul believes that creating a great customer experience goes beyond the store floor. “Mobile will be a vital aspect in the future of retail, and not just for online shopping. Using our app to enhance in-store shopping, track deliveries and provide continuity across bricks and clicks will take the customers overall experience with The Warehouse to another level..”
So why work in The Warehouse team? Paul says, “It’s an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for a number of reasons. It’s a chance for individuals to contribute to the growth and development of The Warehouse’s digital transformation. The digital impact on retail is growing in New Zealand, and being the largest retailer in the country, the work done by the teams here will reach millions of kiwis. New team members will be joining a small team, meaning everyone will get the opportunity to contribute ideas, showcase their skills and have an impact on the continuous development of the website and mobile app, all while receiving support from a well-established and iconic brand.”
Paul considers the culture of the digital team to be reflective of The Warehouse Group, describing it as “energetic, dynamic and casual.” His advice to anyone who might be interested in a role is to be open to change. “If you don’t like change, you may not like it here. A key aspect of being a member of the digital team is also to accept that failing will be part of the job, but it’s important to fail fast, learn from it and use it to succeed going forward.”
Paul says that Craig Jordan, The Warehouse Group Chief Digital Officer is an inspiring and energetic leader, “Craig has a very engaging personality and his vision for The Warehouse to be New Zealand’s leading digital retailer is very exciting. Craig’s building a team of passionate digital enthusiasts where there is opportunity for everyone to contribute and grow.” Craig has plenty of experience in the digital space having performed a number of roles at Trade Me before joining The Warehouse 2 ½ years ago in his current role
