MEET GABRIELLE, FORMER COOP STUDENT AND CURRENT ASSISTANT PLANNER – KIDS FOOTWEAR AT THE WAREHOUSE

I began my journey with The Warehouse at the beginning of this year, when I interviewed with the Executive General Manager of Clothing for a co-op placement within the Head to Toe merchandise team. While discussing my background in Economics and International Business, we quickly realised retail planning was a great environment for me to bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace.

I joined the planning team in the Footwear Department where my role was merchandise support. On my first day I was a little nervous and apprehensive. I had no idea merchandise planning was even a job before Co-op so I was very unsure of how the next 9 weeks was going to go.

Red Wellbeing; such an unassuming name but it encapsulates The Warehouse’s desire to support the wellbeing of our 8,000 Team Members and their families.

Red Wellbeing is an outcome of The Warehouse’s desire to help New Zealand flourish and for our team members to be the best that they can be. It is part of a suite of programmes The Warehouse offers it’s team members under the heading “Learning for a Better Life”. We are celebrating Father’s Day this year by profiling one our many awesome dads here at The Warehouse. Meet Brad Hall, Store Manager at Snells Beach and proud dad to two amazing kids.

I have worked in retail for 23 years in South Africa, Ireland, England and now in New Zealand. I moved here in 2011 and started in The Warehouses 12 week Fast Track Management programme in Hamilton. After I had completed the programme I became Assistant Store Manager at out TeRapa store. In 2012 I moved to our Dargaville store as Store Manager and now I’m Store Manager at Snells Beach and I’m loving it. Continue Reading

Why did you want to complete the Massey University degreeBecause I’m always striving to do better and improve myself. Rachael Knapton is a Technical Specialist for Food and Grocery at The Warehouse. She has been working at The Warehouse for 18 months and is currently completing the Bachelor of Retail and Business Management degree at Massey University.

Why did you want to complete the Massey University degree? My Bachelor degree and career before I joined The Warehouse had been very manufacturing focused. The retail degree specifically focuses on the retail industry and I saw it as an opportunity to develop my knowledge and understanding of the retail industry.  I love learning and challenging myself and this was an excellent opportunity to do both! Nikki is our Clothing Supervisor at the Barrington store in Canterbury. She is currently studying part time to complete the Bachelor of Retail and Business Management at Massey University.

Why did you want to complete the Massey University degree? I wanted to complete the degree to further develop my knowledge and up skill myself. It will also help to further my career opportunities within the group.  Another reason I wanted to do the degree was to be a great role model for the next generation of my whanau by becoming the first to complete a tertiary qualification.
